1. Medical review
We review your medical history, implanted devices and kidney function and determine whether contrast is needed.
2. Arrival and preparation
Upon arrival, remove all metal objects and put on an examination gown for your safety.
You will be comfortably positioned on the MRI table. Inform the team of your health condition or any discomfort, especially if you suffer from claustrophobia. The staff will accompany you throughout the examination.
3. Contrast administration
If necessary, a gadolinium-based contrast agent, which is generally well tolerated, is injected intravenously. It allows for better visualization of certain structures such as blood vessels or areas of inflammation, improving the accuracy of the diagnosis.
4. MRI imaging
MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to obtain detailed images. The examination is painless and is performed while lying down on a table. An antenna is placed near the organ to be examined. The noises you hear are normal. You will be monitored and accompanied throughout the examination.
5. After the exam
After the MRI, you can resume your normal activities immediately. If a contrast agent was used, it is advisable to stay well hydrated. The radiologist will analyze the images, and your doctor will then give you the results.
